Mrs O:
Having graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture degree I worked as an architect in Brisbane, London and Sydney for over 13 years. Specialising in residential design I developed an appreciation for the role of design in creating settings for everyday life, and how good design can enhance lifestyle.
After having three children and renovating our own houses, my love of design challenges that balanced the practical and functional needs of my young family within beautiful spaces provided the inspiration for me to want to shift my focus to interior architecture and start my own business.
Making the move with our three young children from Sydney to Brisbane I convinced Mr O we should buy a 140 year old Queenslander with a workshop and embark on a massive renovation with the goal of making all of our own furniture and starting OLO Furniture.
Mr O:
Building a toy box for my first son back in 2010 reignited my passion for making things, resulting in an ever increasing investment in my skills and workshop. In our Sydney days I honed my skills making more chopping boards than Mrs O could ever have need for and an array of furniture and toys for our family home and friends. Fast forward to our move to Brisbane, when Mrs O wanted a Queenslander. Finding one with a large horse stable converted me and I agreed to the purchase with the intent of quickly converting said stables into a commercial woodworking shop.
We now produce custom solid wood furniture from this shop and Mrs O jokes that I love my tools more than the family and is convinced I sleep out there when her and the kids are away (I will never tell!). Working together we fine tune designs for our clients and are constantly exploring new concepts and ideas.
THE PROCESS:
Bespoke pieces can be very personal, and we recognise the value of having you in involved in the process to create something unique to you and your specifications. It is up to you how involved you want to be, with options ranging from an initial briefing, right up to being kept up to date with each step of the build process on our Instagram page; the choice is yours.
Once we ascertain the look you are after and the size, we sketch up some design ideas for you to approve. Following this we will source the appropriate timber and then we get to work on your build.
