Rick started his woodwork career in the early 80’s completing his cabinet making apprenticeship with a cabinet maker in Yarra Glen, Victoria, and then starting his own small business in Strath Creek. However in the early 90’s he was drawn to the family business and joined his dad’s engineering design firm perusing a new interest/direction in mechanical engineering and design.
Rick’s love for working with wood never faded always busy with home projects and building pieces of fine furniture for friends and family. At the beginning of 2015 his interest was rekindled when he was asked to design and build solid timber furniture for a leading childcare service provider. Since then, he has continued to design and build numerous pieces of furniture and children’s educational aids for organisations and has also been commissioned by individual clients to design and build unique pieces for their homes.
Most of his pieces are made with locally sourced, solid furniture grade timbers using the grain, colour and texture of the timbers to inspire his designs. His fine eye for detail and his workmanship using traditional joining methods and finishes enhance the beauty of the natural characteristics of the timber, producing timeless pieces to outlast any mass produced furniture. Rick wants to share his appreciation for hand-crafted furniture by offering reasonable pricing for commissions and is happy to work closely with clients to come up with designs to suit their needs.
