Description
Made for a Melbournian, this coffee table is made in solid American Black Cherry and Black Walnut. The solid Cherry tabletop was made, separated down the middle and then reassembled with the contrasting Walnut detailing. The profile of this detailing is a representation of the section of the Yarra river that the client had fond memories of walking along. The edge detail of the tabletop is a changing-radius curve cut with hand planes that tildes a very Oriental styling. The base structure is assembled at the corners using a 500 year-old Chinese joint known as the double-interlocking tenon, three-way mitre joint. The interior workings of this joint is essentially a three-dimensional jigsaw puzzle that is extremely enjoying to cut by virtue of its challenging nature. Incredibly strong, it is also very decorative and again openly reveals its Oriental heritage. Finished in 10 coats of hand rubbed Danish oil. Approximately 1800x1200x400mm. Style available in other species and with other detailing profiles on the tabletop.
