CONTACT MAKERWayne Mavin is a craftsman who, over the past 20 years, has specialised in traditional joinery, stairbuilding and handrailing.
Wayne’s objective is to use traditional methods and quality timber to create hand crafted works of the highest standards.
He works for private clients, builders and architects in the Sydney area and interstate on request.
Wayne started his career in 1989 on the mid-north coast of New South Wales with an apprenticeship in a small joinery shop.
For more than five years, he worked for the well-respected Sydney firm Fewings Joinery, building joinery and cabinetry. Always having had an interest in stairbuilding and handrailing, he worked for AW Tod Stair & Joinery refining this craft over a similar period of time.
He draws inspiration from numerous craftsmen and architects some favourites being Edward Barnsley, John Verge, George Ellis and John Harrison as well as the unadorned simplicity of the works from Shaker communities in the United States.
Wayne has established a workshop in Gloucester NSW, where he uses traditional craft-based methods.
His craftsmanship is not limited to joinery alone, but extends to any demanding project, having the ability to research a complex project and the skills to carry it out.
